Sri Maha Sakthi Mohambigai Amman Temple
Kuala Lumpur Attractions
Flanking Mid Valley Megamall – one of the largest malls in Kuala Lumpur – is the ornate Sri Maha Sakthi Mohambigai Amman Temple. This 100-year-old sanctuary is smack in the centre of Mid Valley City making the shrine easily accessible from the jumbo shopping mall. The imposing and mammoth structure is at night, and during Indian celebrations, a truly breathtaking sight.
Two imposing statues known as bhootangals stand at its polychromatic gopuram (entrance gate) and act as guardians of the temple. The shrine also has a huge Bodhi tree inside with a statue of a meditating Buddha under it.
Design
The interior of the temple incorporates impressive statues of several Hindu sculptures from gods to spiritual masters on its walls and is dedicated to the goddess Mohambigai – a combination of the Hindu goddesses Parvathy, Saraswathy and Laxmi. A popular tourist attraction in Kuala Lumpur, the temple is a draw for both devotees and tourists due to its magnificent architectural style.
Religious celebrations
Colourful flower stalls litter the place and the scent of jasmine incense permeates the air. The temple is a venue for Indian celebrations especially weddings. Deepavali – the most popular Indian festival in Malaysia – sees the holy place crowded with followers and visitors every year.
