Yuen Buffet Steamboat restaurant is set opposite Sunway Pyramid in Mentari Plaza, Bandar Sunway. About 30 minutes from KL, it offers really cheap steamboat selections but it is not just the prices that make this restaurant so popular – it’s also the staggering variety of vegetables and meat dishes available.
The un-cooked ‘dishes’ are prepared (cut, chopped etc) beforehand at Yuen Steamboat and patrons ‘cook’ their own food in the huge boiling bowl of soup in the centre of the table: this ensures that vegetables remain nice and crunchy and the meat dishes such as prawns, scallops, clams and oysters maintain their juicy flavour.
Book Ahead
The bowl of soup in the centre of the table is divided into two sections: tom yam and clear soup – the regular broth is not spicy which makes it perfect for tourists’ tastes. The tom yam soup is especially popular with locals and seems to taste better towards the bottom of the bowl. Besides the meat and vegetables, there is also mee, bee hoon and eggs to go with the soup.
The queue for a table at Yuen Buffet Steamboat restaurant is especially long but if you arrive early (before 18:00) snagging a table should be easy, or you could call ahead to book. While customers wait for their steamboat selections they usually order the delicious honey-and-teriyaki-sauce grilled chicken wings. For dessert there is a wide variety of kuih, fruits and ice cream available.
