With a variety of watery rides on offer and plenty of dry-land activities too, excitement is certainly the name of the game at the 80-acre Sunway Lagoon Theme Park. One of Petaling Jaya’s most famous attractions, its list of rides is extensive with water slides that whirl and twirl, a manmade ‘river’ ride, surf beach, wave pool and even a 360° revolving pirate ship. The park is divided into five different zones – a water park with the world’s largest manmade surf beach, the Scream Park, Amusement Park, Extreme Park and Wildlife Park.
Sunway Lagoon has something for everyone: if you are looking to laze around, we suggest the Grand Canyon Rapid Falls, where you sit on inner tubes and swirl down the 350m-long ‘river’; however, adrenaline-junkies are best catered for with the Congo Challenge – a six-lane water slide that achieves speeds of up to 40kmph – and the Cameroon Climb, where two riders swoop down from a height of 15m in double tubes and shoot up and down till they come to a standstill. You wake up in a cold, dingy, and seemingly-abandoned industrial unit. You have no idea how you came to be there, and looking around you discover an even more chilling discovery – a cassette recorder with the blood-curling voice of Dr. Malcolm, a serial killer who has imprisoned you with evil motives...and you have only 45 minutes to ESCAPE!
This is the premise of one of the ‘escape rooms’ at Escape Room at The Curve – a live-action puzzle game, designed for one to eight people, in which players have to unravel the mystery of a purpose-built room and break out by unlocking it with a number of clues. Essentially a puzzle game brought to life, there are six rooms here – a mummy’s tomb, prison cell, pirate ship, abandoned factory, slaughterhouse and mystery room. Each game starts off with a single clue – and as the clock ticks down on the large electronic wall clock, you will have to find an answer and discover the keys to escape each room.

Taking the ‘let’s pretend’ game to a whole new level, the 80,000sqft Kidzania KL is a memorable, edutainment centre designed to show and encourage kids to ‘work’ in professional jobs. Giving new meaning to role playing, it teaches them about different career choices, with miniature-sized replicas of office buildings and cars inside this ‘mini city’.
In total there are over 90 different types of grown-up jobs including pretending to be a surgeon, judge, mechanic and hairdresser. A great way to teach children the value of money, each job a child performs at the two-storey complex earns them Kidzania currency. Called KidZos, at the end of the day they can use this ‘money’ to redeem merchandise from the centre’s gift store, or buy a meal at indoor fast food or sushi restaurants. Read More...

If you have ever wanted to experience exhilarating action at a convenient location while testing your physical and mental limits, you should your hand at the art of scaling walls and mountains. The idea of an outdoor rock climbing experience can be a little daunting to beginners, especially if you have to scout around for climbing gear and consider the potential danger of personal injury.
This is why indoor climbing gyms have become so popular, especially among city-dwellers looking for an introduction to the sport. The state-of-the-art Camp 5, Asia’s largest climbing gym, is one such indoor venue, catering to new climbers and professionals with ‘400 boulder, toprope and lead routes’. The 24m-high, fully air-conditioned glass-domed centre is set on the fifth floor of One Utama shopping centre in Petaling Jaya and if you manage to climb to some of its higher wall heights you will be treated to 270 degree views of the city.

A playground with a difference, Jump Street is a trampoline park where you and your little ones can spend hours literally bouncing off the walls. An indoor air-conditioned venue with jumping areas that are super safe (think, padded edges), it is a pretty cool spot, with some sections featuring angled trampolines that allow you to bounce off the walls.
A low-impact energising activity, there are eight types of trampoline jumping experiences at Jump Street, including a 9,000sqft free jumping space perfect for all ages, a sunken trampoline pit filled with thousands of soft foam cubes ideal for trying high-risk jumps, and even a trampoline basketball ‘court’ that will enable anyone to achieve a slam dunk! A popular activity with adrenaline junkies, paintballing is a game where players simulate military battles using airguns that shoot colourful paint-filled capsules at each other. If you have ever wanted to try your hand at paintballing like a pro, we recommend you drop by Canyon Paintball in Bukit Utama, just ten minutes drive away from One Utama.
This park has themed playing fields including four jungle-battlefield pitches that create a genuine 'guerrilla-war' experience, plus a professional speed ball arena. The only downside is that they open on the weekends only, but if you can get a group of 20 or more people you can pre-book a pitch for a weekday and get crazy with your paintball guns and pellets.

On the days when life gets you so stressed up and you need to find an outlet to release all that tension, we highly recommend you make a trip down to It’s A Hit Batting Cages. Located on the rooftop of One Utama shopping centre in Petaling Jaya, this place really is the way to go when it comes to softball practice, with an outdoor-like feel and rates that are fairly reasonable (RM18 for 45 balls).
The perfect place to work on your home run swing, each batting cage is pretty solid, making them perfect for beginners looking to try out their softball swing, or softball professionals looking to relive their glory days. However, we suggest you bring batting gloves because pitches are fast (one ball per nine seconds) and it will hurt your hands when you make contact, unless you choose the slow-pitch softball setting.

When you are in the mood to go for a spin on an ice skating rink, you have two options in Petaling Jaya: the first is Malaysia’s largest ice skating rink in Sunway Pyramid mall, but this arena is located within a usually-crowded mall, so it lacks romantic appeal. On the contrary, The Royale Chulan Damansara Ice Skating Rink is perfect for hand-in-hand figure eights on the ice, accompanied by the beautiful view of twinkling fairy lights on trees outside the hotel.
It is only RM25 per entry and while traditionally ice skating is the quintessential winter pastime typically available when sub-zero temperatures hit, at The Royale Chulan Damansara Ice Skating Rink synthetic ice allows for year-round gliding. Whether you are looking to add a bit of romance to a first date, or you just want some thrills and spills on the ice with the little ones, this cosy, intimate ice skating rink is the place for you.

If you are the adventurous sort and looking to get the most out of your holiday we cannot recommend scuba diving enough. An undersea activity that will leave you breathless at the mystery of the sea’s gorgeous marine life, a training course at Sealantis Dive Centre requires a short period to get you started.

It is set in a rustic two-storey bungalow that doubles up as a cooking school, and helming its kitchen is renowned Malaysian chef and cookbook writer Rohani Jelani, a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, with impressive skills on the chopping board and the enthusiasm to match.
Forget all the short-cuts that you have learnt before – Rohani teaches students how to cook the way she was taught, with easy to follow recipes and nifty tips and tricks to get through without difficulty.
