  • Where to Stay in Bangsar

Editor's Guide to Recommended Hotels in Bangsar

Set approximately 15 minutes away from the main city centre, but still within the city limits, Bangsar is best known as Kuala Lumpur’s international village. This suburb of Kuala Lumpur caters to pockets of varying cultural and social echelons. Popular for its urban nightlife, it’s not as rowdy as KL but while the city centre sees more of a tourist and local Chinese crowd, Bangsar’s the haunt of expats, upscale yuppies, and KL’s well-to-do and college students. The area plays host to the Bangsar Shopping Centre and Bangsar Village shopping complex, but worth special mention is the smorgasbord of upscale eateries and frugally-priced friendly neighbourhood warungs or hawker centres. In a nutshell Bangsar’s appeal lies in its ability to cater to everyone. No matter the hour of the night you’re sure to come across trendy party animals as well as families out for a late night nasi lemak supper.

    What is 'Editor's Pick':
Editor’s Picks are the hotels we personally reviewed and liked the most, ones we recommend to our friends and family when they come to Bangsar and are looking for the best places to stay according to their budget or location preferences.

Best Hotels Near Mid Valley KTM Station

Why Did We Pick This Hotel?

This business-oriented hotel, The Boulevard-St Giles Premier Hotel, sits right in the middle of Midvalley City, 20 minutes from the city centre. Even so, well-known attractions are within reach using nearby public transportation, KTM Komuter Midvalley, and the hotel is flanked with two of the most exciting shopping malls in the city – the family-friendly Midvalley Megamall and the upmarket Gardens Mall, offering over 600 retail, dining and entertainment options for you to choose from. Hotel facilities include four function rooms, a gymnasium, an outdoor pool and two F&B venues: Flutes Living Room for a selection of wines, champagnes and cocktails, and Wild Rice Restaurant offering local and western cuisine with an open terrace and pool view seating.

Keeping in line with the overall theme of the hotel, rooms are spacious and comfortable, leaning heavily towards muted, executive colours – think heavy tones of chocolate, white and gray. In-room modern conveniences such as individually-controlled air conditioning, a mini-fridge, wired and Wi-Fi connection and television with in-house movies are also available, together with furnishings such as luxurious beds, a working desk and bathrooms with separate shower and long bath. Newly-renovated deluxe and studio suite rooms overlook Mid Valley City, but if you want value for money, we recommend the latter – it comes with an extra large working area and a lounge area, together with refreshments such as a welcome fruit basket and mineral water.

What we loved:

  • Convenient location in Midvalley City: right next door is Midvalley Megamall and across the road is The Gardens Mall
  • Newly-refurbished studio suites that come with a welcome fruit basket and complimentary mineral water bottles
  • Large outdoor pool
  • Friendly staff provide quick and efficient service
  • Well-equipped gymnasium open from 07:00 until 22:00, overlooking the swimming pool

Why Did We Pick This Hotel?

With potted plants, mustard-coloured pillars, marble floors, beige couches and wall sconces Cititel Mid Valley reminds us of a 1980s Palm Beach Hotel. An affordable hotel packed with charm, it is located about 15 minutes away from the Kuala Lumpur city centre. A budget-friendly place that is great for business travellers and families, the three-star property is tucked on a calm, green square directly linked to Mid Valley Megamall, one of the city's largest shopping centres, which is home to over 630 retail and F&B venues, an 18-screen movie theatre, a karaoke lounge and a 38-lane bowling alley. It's a low-key, old-fashioned hotel, with limited leisure facilities: there are five function rooms (including a grand ballroom) available and two F&B venues. Guests breakfast at the front-of-hotel Citi Cafe in a soft and sunny space that makes for a good spot to have a cup of coffee on warm evenings.

With something of a soft, homey feel, Cititel Hotel's 646 perkily-styled rooms are cosy and perfect for business travellers. There are only three room types available: Superior, Deluxe and Executive Suite, and in-room amenities include complimentary broadband access, a ceiling fan, and attached bathroom with shower facilities. Done up in a neutral beige colour scheme, they come with blackout curtains, smoothly upholstered furniture and comfy beds. We recommend you upgrade to the 36m² Deluxe Rooms which are twice the size of standard Superior Rooms: these units come with Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. The hotel's room setup is pretty flexible, with a number of connected units available - perfect for group bookings.

What we loved:

  • 1980s Palm Beach Hotel style, with potted plants, mustard-coloured pillars, marble floors, beige couches and wall sconces
  • Stylish Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf coffeehouse just steps away from the lobby entrance
  • Great location adjacent to Mid Valley Megamall
  • Easy connection to the city centre via the KTM Mid Valley Komuter station
  • Two on-site F&B venues, with more themed dining outlets in Mid Valley Megamall

Flying under the Accor brand, the 27-storey Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar is a five-star hotel that strikes us a throwback to 1920s retro charm, with a masculine and dashing, future-proof interior of snow-white walls, crisp black door frames and mauve flashes on the floor mats. Flying under the Accor brand, it is the kind of hotel that instantly attracts the elite, with leisure offerings ranging from a fully equipped wellness centre to an outdoor swimming pool, four restaurants and bars, and a roof-deck with enviable views over the city. Why Did We Pick This Hotel?

The Gardens Hotel & Residences-St Giles Luxury Hotel's biggest unique selling point is its close proximity to two major KL shopping malls - Mid Valley Megamall (home to over 630 retail outlets) and Gardens Mall, a time honoured classic, the five-star property offers such a high level of luxury and top notch service, that it is no wonder that it grabs so much attention. An infinity-edge pool, gym and five restaurants and bars, including Sage - an award-winning fine-dining restaurant offering contemporary western cuisine with Asian influences - make up the rest of the complex.

When it comes to bedding down, in terms of appearance and atmosphere, The Gardens Hotel & Residences-St Giles Luxury Hotel has the edge over a lot of other five-star hotels. The hotel's 448 rooms are warmly decorated and feature in-room mod cons like wired broadband access, a flat-screen TV with cable channels and an attached bath with shower facilities and a tub, but what we really love is the pillow menu, allowing you to select the one to ensure a good night's sleep. Meanwhile, the property's 199 serviced residences take it one step closer to home and offer additional amenities such as a kitchen complete with a microwave, fridge, toaster, electric kettle and plenty of kitchen utensils.

What we loved:

  • Direct access to two shopping malls - Gardens Mall and Mid Valley Megamall
  • Reasonably priced serviced apartments with full kitchen amenities
  • Hotel facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, well-equipped gym, ballroom, nine function rooms and a business centre
  • Sage: award-winning fine-dining restaurant offering contemporary fusion food
  • Pillow menu in each hotel room, plus striking, open-plan layouts make each room a haven

Recommended Mid Range Hotels in Bangsar

For people want a full set of facilities but don’t expect perfection at every turn, these mid-range hotels are for you. Sure, you get a nice pool, room service, concierge, but the price is kept lower in different ways – for example, reduced selections at breakfast or slightly smaller guestrooms. The competition in Kuala Lumpur is so fierce that prices get reduced on five-star hotels pushing them into mid-range territory. But make no mistake, these are excellent hotels!

Why Did We Pick This Hotel?

The Nomad Residences Bangsar spells out luxury from the moment you step into its beautifully-landscaped grounds. Located just 25 minutes away from the KL city centre, the four-star property offers a home-away-from-home experience to rival that of higher-end establishments within the central city limits. Home to just 58 exclusive studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, ranging in size from 360sqft to 1,700sqft, The Nomad Residences Bangsar is perfect for both solo travellers and large families. In-room amenities remain the same across the board - think Wi-Fi, a flat screen TV with cable channels, a small kitchenette with basic appliances and even a washer and dryer; select units come with a private balcony.
