The unpretentious bar has been around for over 14 years now and is considered an institution in the city. It is very laidback and casual, and local and visiting jazz performers play to a sophisticated, respectful crowd. Pinchos Tapas Bar is a Spanish-style bar and restaurant that is an ideal place for a light, casual dinner. On the night we visited the place was crowded but with plenty of tables, it was easy to get a seat. Salsa music plays over the speakers, creating a sultry, animated vibe and making it a great place to get together with friends for drinks. From the outside Pinchos looks modest, with lots of potted plants and some outdoor seating. Inside, the bar takes pride of place at the front, with intimate wooden tables and chairs set up all around it: Spanish tiles and pendant lights that cast a warm, romantic glow over the area make it a great place for date nights. The Bier Bar is a modern German gastro pub located along Changkat Bukit Bintang with a great neighbourhood-tavern feel. One of the things that have contributed to its popularity is the ‘one metre long draught beer’ – about 11 glasses of the bar’s different brews, lined up and served on a wooden board. Another quirky special at The Bier Bar is the Eiffel Tower, a three-litre beer tower shaped like the Eiffel Tower. Nominated in the Restaurateur of the Year category of Time Out KL Food Awards in 2012, The Bier Bar stays true to its German core serving authentic German dishes like Bavarian-style schnitzels, bratwursts and pork knuckles, plus there is also Spanish cuisine available. The Green Man is one of the oldest restobars along Changkat Bukit Bintang. Set in an abandoned pre-war terraced house, it looks like a typical British pub with a bar and pool table. There are pencil-drawn sketches of old London Town and a few teakwood tables for you to sit at inside but most people choose the outdoor seating – the perfect spot to people watch. There are flashier clubs just next door but if you are looking for a different sort of energy, then the old tavern-like feel of The Green Man is for you. The pub’s happy hour deals, coupled with its green décor and peaceful, homey vibe make it the perfect place to hang out with friends. Read More...

The Social

One of the more popular outlets along Changkat, this establishment has another outlet in Bangsar. Sangria Sundays are a good deal and the bar has live bands rocking out a few times a week. A favourable location at the end of Changkat Bukit Bintang and an intimate atmosphere helps The Whisky Bar to stand out in one of Kuala Lumpur’s prime clubbing areas. Though it is surrounded by nightclubs, this place is a drinking and dining spot primarily for a mature crowd. A jazz-infused sanctuary of single malts, it has a casual, good-time vibe, making it a great spot to mix and mingle. The hundreds of bottles of whisky on the glass shelves define The Whisky Bar’s interior design the most. But cushy, red leather bucket armchairs, blackboards with the bar’s vast list of single malt whiskies chalked up on them go a long way to ensuring the place looks a lot like a posh whisky den – you almost expect to see a roaring fireplace.
