What to Do at Night in Changkat Bukit Bintang

All the rage in Kuala Lumpur now, Changkat Bukit Bintang is one of the city’s most happening boulevards. Regarded as the ‘it’ party venue in KL’s lively yet fluid clubbing scene, Changkat is crammed with restaurants that morph into nightclubs with cocktails bars and pubs that transform into rowdy drinking joints, with deejays spinning music. Live performances from various local acts are also held in a number of nightspots. Elixir

Featuring gothic French décor in shades of pink and white, Envie is one of the most popular Changkat clubs and manages to attract a steady crowd due to its knack of offering everything a good night out needs. Frangipani Restaurant & Bar

Aiming to be different from the rest, Frangipani is one of the pioneer establishments along effervescent Changkat. Behind the heavy steel front door downstairs is one of the best French cuisine fine-dining experiences in KL. Havana Bar & Grill

Renovated in August 2009 and previously known as Little Havana, this establishment is divided into three separate areas – an open-air pub, a cigar lounge and a restaurant. The Green Man

Shortlisted as one of KL’s best dining experiences by Time Out Kuala Lumpur Food Awards 2010, The Green Man is a tavern with good British pub food. The Social

One of the more popular outlets along Changkat, this establishment has another outlet in Bangsar. Sangria Sundays are a good deal and the bar has live bands rocking out a few times a week. The menu isn’t extensive yet the food is good; try the aromatic crispy duck – crispy duck served with homemade pancakes, sweet plum sauce, chilli oil and julienne of spring onions and cucumber.

The Whisky Bar

Occupying a corner lot, The Whisky Bar sits at the end of the Changkat Bukit Bintang Avenue. The establishment serves up an extensive array of more than 200 types of whiskies ranging from Scott Blended, Single Malt and American to Japanese, Irish and Canadian brands. The bar is a dimly-lit corner with a steady stream of patrons and the one-page menu comprises mainly of salads, tapas and cheese platters. Try the Jamon Iberico, cured ham from black Iberian pig, on bread with diced tomatoes – the dish is unexpectedly savoury.

A popular haunt amongst the young and uber trendy, the sleek and sophisticated, Twenty.one Kitchen + Bar is a restaurant that transforms into a throbbing party venue at night, particularly during weekends. Opened in 2007, the main dining area downstairs serves mouth-watering dishes in a quieter atmosphere but the best place to enjoy the delicious food is at the outdoor lounge. Try the penne drowned in three cheese sauce, diced chicken and sun-dried tomatoes; enjoy free cocktails on Thursdays if you don a pink outfit.

Boasting a well-stocked bar, Werner’s on Changkat occupies an expansive corner lot along Changkat Bukit Bintang. Especially popular among the young yuppie crowd, the establishment has plush yet spunky fixtures with chandeliers and luxurious sofas.
