Why Did We Pick This Hotel?

Located just next to KL Sentral, the 35-storey Hilton Kuala Lumpur is a time-honoured classic with ample leisure facilities, including a two-storey gym, spa, sauna, and a 120-metre freeform terrace saltwater pool. Interior-wise, in-house local artist Infantino Fernandes provides Hilton KL with a rotating collection of wood and steel artwork that gives the place a quirky yet elegant touch.

The hotel's 503 soundproof rooms and suites are fitted with throw pillows, olive green couches, mosaic tiles and art-deco rugs add a touch of flashiness to the experience. Offering expansive views of Lake Gardens, we love the two-storey duplex Penthouse suite - perfect for a little extra special stay, downstairs is a work station, living room, dining room and kitchen. Upstairs is a bedroom with a king-sized bed, a walk-in wardrobe, electronically-controlled blackout curtains and an attached bathroom with separate shower, sauna and Jacuzzi bathtub with a mini TV.

The pleasingly unpretentious 35-storey Le Meridien is a five-star property with lots of mirrors and brass. It has a classic, minimalist style, but manages to exude a ‘home away from home’ feel. Facilities include a fitness studio, spa and KL's largest free-form pool, plus it is home to two award-wining restaurants, Prime and Favola, where you can enjoy an array of premium meat cuts from Australia and US, complemented with an extensive selection of wines.

If you are looking for a chic room at a reasonable rate, then Le Meridien is the hotel for you. Behind the Jim Thompson silk drapes of each toffee-coloured room are views of the city and Lake Gardens and en-suite bathrooms have a large bathtub and separate shower. Furnishings have a distinctive art deco touch and in-room conveniences include irresistibly-fluffy goose feather duvets. With KL Sentral right next door, you would expect rooms to be noisy but thankfully that is not the case, with each unit calm and quiet.

What we loved:

  • Classic-style bedrooms with goose down duvets and Jim Thompson silk curtains
  • Great views of Lake Gardens from the bathtub in certain room types
  • KL's largest free-form pool with a water slide
