Just as its name suggests, there is only one way to describe KLCC: the heart of Kuala Lumpur. At once an entertainment, commercial and business focal point, KLCC is home to some of the most popular landmarks in Malaysia, making it a popular tourist destination. Described by its developers as ‘A City Within A City’, KLCC offers a myriad of interesting attractions that never cease to wonder, as well as plenty of nightlife, dining and shopping options.
KLCC is awash with accommodation options. Where to stay here is never a question as there are plenty available, from boutique hotels such as Hotel Maya to luxury five-star properties such as Mandarin Oriental. The best thing is that they are all located close to the area’s attractions and places of interest that it’s possible to walk from one to another.
KLCC is the home to many of the city’s most significant and prominent landmarks. Perhaps the most well-known is the architectural masterpiece that is the Petronas Twin Towers, the world-famous 88-storey building featured in the Hollywood blockbuster starring Sean Connery, The Entrapment. Standing majestically at 452 metres, Petronas Twin Towers is arguably Malaysia’s most prominent and easily-recognisable architectural landmark. Other attractions such as KL Tower, Aquaria KLCC, Petrosains, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Petronas Art Gallery (Galeri Petronas) and Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve are also worth visiting.
KLCC Restaurants & Dining
KLCC is full of places to eat; you might have a hard time deciding where to eat rather than searching for them. Whether you’re on a spree or a tight budget, and whether you prefer local cuisine or international offerings, KLCC will see to your culinary needs and preferences, as the area consists of a network of roads along which plenty of dining options can be found, particularly along Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail. A lot of good restaurants can also be found along the other streets in KLCC, such as Jalan Pinang and Jalan Conlay. If you can’t be bothered to walk around in the hot sun in search for a bite to eat, Suria KLCC also has a host of options which are well worth a look.
During the day, KLCC assumes the grave role of Malaysia’s centre of trade, finance and commerce. During the night, it lets its hair down and turns into a hotbed of nocturnal activities and after-dark fun. Clubs, bars and pubs scattered all over KLCC come to life at night, with the majority of them concentrated along Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail – particularly Jalan P. Ramlee. When it comes to nightlife, Jalan P Ramlee is considered one of the city’s hottest venues. Lively and vibrant after dark, exciting nightlife options line the street, each looking as colourful on the inside as they do on the outside.
KLCC has been regarded by some as the ultimate destination for shopaholics, specifically at the foot of the Petronas Twin Towers. Suria KLCC is an immense, crescent-shaped shopping centre located at the foot of the Twin Towers. Comprising six levels of retail outlets from luxury boutiques to food courts, this premier shopping destination is a dream come true for shopaholics and those in need of a little retail therapy. Just across the street from Suria KLCC is Avenue K, a lifestyle mall filled with internationally-acclaimed high-fashion brands.
Being an entertainment, commercial and business hub, there are plenty of things to do in and around KLCC. You can catch a classical performance at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, or catch the latest releases at the Tanjong Golden Village cinema in Suria KLCC. You can also get a bird’s-eye view of the city from Petronas Twin Towers’ Skybridge or KL Tower’s Observation Platform. After that, head down to the KLCC Park right in front of the Suria KLCC shopping mall to watch a spectacular display of dancing fountains at the park’s Lake Symphony.
