Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur
KLCC Shopping
On the east side of the city is the famed KLCC urban development, one of the largest real estate developments in the world (covering a 40-ha site in the Golden Triangle) and anchoring the Kuala Lumpur city centre. A 20-ha park, the 50-storey Ampang Tower office block, a shopping complex, the Esso Tower, a convention centre, a world-class concert hall, the 600-room, five-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel and the Petronas Twin Towers are all part of the vast KLCC.
Located at the base of the 88-storey, steel-clad Petronas Twin Towers (which rise to 451.9m), the crescent-shaped Suria KLCC is more than just a shopping and dining venture. Opened in 1999, the retail and entertainment complex on the junction of Jalan Ampang and Jalan P. Ramlee houses a plethora of interesting attractions.
Shops
Spanning over six floors of the fantastic high-rise, Suria KLCC’s anchor tenants include Cold Storage supermarket, Japanese-retailer Isetan, Kinokuniya, British-based Marks & Spencer flagship store, Parkson Grand, Signature's Level 2 Food Court and Tanjong Golden Village – the largest TGV multiplex in KL.
Known as one of KL’s luxury retail emporiums, Suria KLCC’s inventory of stores include luxury designers such as Alfred Dunhill, Aigner, Bally, Brioni, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Chopard, Coach, DKNY, Emporio Armani, Emilio Pucci, Ermenegildo Zegna, Fendi, Ferragamo, Frank Muller, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Hermes, Hugo Boss, Jimmy Choo, Karen Millen, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Moschino, Miu Miu, Piaget, Paul Smith, Prada, Rolex, Salvatore, Stuart Weitzman, Tod's and Versace.
Food at Suria KLCC
Fast food outlets are readily available on the concourse level while elegant cafés can be found on the ground floor. Alternatively, the second floor plays host to a vast food court that can seat up to 1,200 people and there are themed restaurants and another food court – that can seat 300 people – on the third floor.
Attractions & Activities
One of Suria KLCC’s (or simply KLCC as it’s known to locals) most interesting attractions is the 70,000sqft Petrosains centre on Level 4 of the mall. A state-of-the-art venue frequently visited by both local and foreign families – the interactive science discovery centre has petroleum industry-glorifying rides and hands-on computer games.
Meanwhile, the concourse level plays host to the 60,000sqft Aquaria KLCC, a well-stocked giant fish bowl, reputed to be the home of the largest aquarium on earth at over 5,000sqft. Playing host to 150 different species including sand tiger sharks, sea snakes, giant groupers, bright coral fish and seahorses, visitors are transported via a conveyor belt through underwater tunnels to see over 5,000 aquatic and marine animals. Be sure to check out the 90m-long underwater tunnel and the living sea exhibit; additionally, there’s a daily shark feeding session at 15:00 and a diving with the sharks program.
For the artistically-inclined, the Galeri Petronas – located on the third floor – offers top-class exhibitions of contemporary photography and paintings. More conventional attractions include the 12-screen Tanjong Golden Village Cinema.
Just outside Suria KLCC is the KLCC Park – a vast park with a great kids’ playground, paddling pools and synchronised water fountains. If you’re in the mood for classical music then consider booking a ticket for a concert in the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas – a state-of-the-art concert hall in Tower 2 of the Petronas Twin Towers.
