  • A Pie Thing Cafe at Petaling Jaya

Sweet and Savoury Pie Shop in Damansara Uptown

    0

A Pie Thing is a quaint cafe that serves up delicious homemade sweet and savoury pies, imported confectioneries, as well as a satisfying range of coffees and teas in Petaling Jaya. Occupying a corner shop lot in Damansara Uptown (just minutes away from One World Hotel), this establishment is easily spotted by those travelling on the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) highway thanks its massive black-and-white signboard.

Interior-wise, A Pie Thing is hardly extravagant when it comes to decor which results in mismatched yet well-spaced seating arrangements of communal tables with high stools, steel chairs and wooden tables. The counter area displays an array of mouth-watering pastries and Leonidas Belgian chocolates while a suspended menu lists down the prices of beverages and pie toppings.

  • A Pie Thing’s savoury pies consist of local and international flavours within a buttery short crust pastry, such as ayam percik (spicy barbecued chicken), chilli cheese, cheesy chicken, and pulled lamb. Served piping hot with generous amounts of gravy, peas and mash, the chunky steak pie with ‘mashacre’ toppings (RM16.90) is very filling thanks to the thick yet tender chunks of beef and flavourful sauce. Also available here are meat-free options, and we highly recommend the creamy spinach pie with mash and gravy toppings (RM14.90) for those with a lighter appetite.

After having your fill of A Pie Thing Cafe’s savoury pies, do save some room for its tantalising dessert options. We especially enjoy the Apple Crumble pie (RM9.90) with loads of melt-in-your-mouth stewed apple bits that perfectly complement the sugary crust and vanilla ice-cream.

The cafe’s signature S’mores pie proves to be the crowd favourite, which consists of rich Belgian chocolate topped with gooey roasted marshmallows. Priced at RM9.90, it’s a decadent dessert option that will immensely satisfy diners with a sweet tooth. Also noteworthy is The Elvis (RM11.90), which combines creamy peanut butter, rich chocolate syrup, and fresh bananas in a single thick crust.

Serving sumptuous homemade pies, refreshing teas, fizzy sodas, and aromatic coffees in a casual and unpretentious setting, A Pie Thing is massively popular amongst a young, hip crowd of college students and professionals. Accessible within a 20-minute drive from KL Sentral Station, it is especially busy during after-office hours, so make sure to head there early to avoid a long queue.
