Ben's have closed for business in Bangsar Village shopping mall.
Ben’s is a home-grown chain restaurant with a simple formula of good food, great location and trendy décor. There are three outlets – Pavilion KL, Suria KLCC and Publika Mall, and all have a different style and personality: the common denominator is that they all look like someone’s warm and inviting living room.
The laidback vibe at Ben’s restaurant really makes you feel like you have stopped by at a friend’s house for dinner and drinks. Voted Best New Restaurant by Time Out KL in 2011, the tasty food makes a trip here worthwhile, with portions big enough for two and prices that are very reasonable.

The Pavilion branch looks like a trendy city loft with lime green walls, royal blue L-shaped sofas and black and white photos on the walls. The Suria KLCC outlet resembles a Manhattan townhouse with walls in shades of grey, black wooden screen doors and cafeteria-style wooden high tables and chairs.
Meanwhile, the Publika restaurant is a blend of both these styles. The outdoor area looks very chic with rustic white country clapboard screens, white oversized sofas and huge umbrellas shading the small tables from the elements. Inside, the restaurant has polished wooden floors, white rattan chairs, sunshine yellow couches and glass screen doors.
The menu is a mix of western pastas, sandwiches and burgers, and a few Asian options. Start off with chunky mushroom soup with truffle oil and garlic toast – it easily matches similar dishes at far more extravagant locations.
The highlight is the simple but spicy aglio olio spaghetti with prawns and squid: the plate is heaped with spaghetti noodles tossed in flavoured oils and garnished with wilted spinach – the dish simply bursts with rich, tingling flavour. Next up is the crispy duck confit on a bed of spaghetti – the meat was a little too thick to be crispy, but the noodles, tossed with rocket leaves and sun dried tomatoes, are full of zesty flavour.
Finish off with another must-try – Ben’s desserts! The rich and spongy chocolate and walnut brownie is a good choice is you want a dessert that is not too sweet, but you will also like the banoffee sundae – a tummy-filling, delicious combination of bananas, shortbread, ice cream and chocolate sauce.
