Dynasty restaurant in Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel is a standout ambassador for non-halal Cantonese Chinese food in the city, and consistently popular. Something of a neighbourhood icon, in our opinion it is in the running for best roast suckling pig in the entire city.
Located along Jalan Ipoh, Dynasty Restaurant is a recommended dining place among a sea of restaurants in the city centre, and although the wait for a table can be long, the speedy service and dishes like succulent siu mai (minced pork dumplings) and chee cheong fun (rice noodle roll with shrimp and barbeque pork) speak for themselves.

Winning hands-down for sheer wow factor, style-wise the interior design is very ornate with deep red walls, ornate Chinese porcelain works, richly upholstered wooden chairs and white cloth covered tables. The clean, well-designed space is several steps above the average Kuala Lumpur Cantonese restaurant, with the kitchen helmed by executive sous chef Kok Chee Kin, who has made the award-winning eatery a home for spirited dishes that are satisfying and not-too-heavy with a home cooked edge.
Price-wise, it is less expensive here than a lot of KL Chinese restaurants (the menu tops out at RM80), and the food is so fresh and full-flavoured, making a visit here practically a necessity.
Expect to find tasty cooking with all the Chinese stalwarts available on the menu, expertly prepared, as well as some innovative creations like deep fried fish-paste with cheese in bean curd roll-up wraps (RM9.80). One of the things we love best about this restaurant is the fact that the deeply flavourful dishes are not stingy with fillings – for example, the crispy chive biscuit filled with shrimps are generously stuffed, and somehow are all at once sweet, savoury and spicy in flavour (RM10.80).
Diners at Dynasty restaurant can request for the spiciness to be toned down a little and the kitchen will still deliver taste-wise. Hands-down their best dishes are the prawn rolls with egg yolk, which is crispy and aromatic, and the wok fried prawns with asparagus in XO sauce.
To get to Dynasty restaurant from Suria KLCC, it is only a short ten-minute walk - just head west on Jalan Ampang, towards Jalan Yap Kwan Seng and you can find the hotel on your right behind one of the slip roads.
Alternatively, it is only 190m from the Bukit Nanas monorail station – simply head north on Jalan Sultan Ismail and turn right onto Jalan Ipoh (after the Jalan Ampang turnoff).
