Situated along Bangsar’s Jalan Telawi 3, El Meson is a stylish neighbourhood bar and restaurant that’s been going strong since 2009. Decked out in vibrant artwork, unique light fixtures, polished wooden furnishings, and lively Spanish music playing in the background, this bustling Spanish eatery is popular choice amongst expats and locals staying in Bangsar and Petaling Jaya.
Spanish-native Chef Pedro Diaz, a professional chef with twelve years of experience, heads El Meson’s kitchen and delivers an extensive range of authentic Spanish delicacies such as tapas, cold cuts and cheese, paella, and ensaladas (salads). In keeping with the Latin vibes, portions here are designed to be shared, so just order a handful of dishes off the menu and let everyone dive in.
Some of El Meson’s signature porcine dishes include the bacon-wrapped piggy in a blanket sausages (RM20) served with honey mustard and caramelised onions, as well as sticky pork ribs (RM18), consistently of four tender sakura pork ribs marinated in salt and pepper, finished with jalapeno and paprika salt. Our favourite is the flavoursome Panceta de Cerdo Crujiente (RM25), a satisfying dish of crispy Spanish pork belly slices with apple sauce that pairs well with a pint of ice-cold beer during laidback weekends.
Available by glass and bottle, El Meson’s wine list is one of the most extensive and value-for-money offering we’ve seen in KL so far, with quality Spanish brands such as the enticingly fruity Torres San Valentin Parellada and the smooth Torres San Valentin Garnacha red wine, while Torres De Casta Rosado has notes of redcurrant, apple and banana.
El Meson also serves a good range of imported beers, sangrias and cocktails, where guests can enjoy daily happy hour promo from 12:00 till 21:00. A jug of Tiger is priced at RM46nett while the house special red sangria or apple sangria is priced at RM80nett or RM82nett for one jug.
Situated just opposite Bangsar Village II Shopping Centre, the easiest way to get to El Meson from Kuala Lumpur city centre is via LRT: alight at the Bangsar stop and from there you can grab a taxi or take a 20-minute walk via Lorong Maarof.
