I’m a small town girl currently living in Kuala Lumpur since 2007. Between 2014 and 2015, I’ve gone on seemingly endless trips to many beautiful cities around the world, including Melbourne, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Hoi An, and Bangkok.
The three-course degustation lunch menu is priced at RM128, with wine or champagne pairing available for RM89 per diner. You are first served with an artisan bread plate, which comes with butter and three types of salt. Almost everything in Enfin by James Won Kuala Lumpur is produced in-house, including the gelato, sauces and breads (using French-milled flour and natural yeast), while the sustainably-sourced seafood and meat is also fully deboned and portioned on site.
For entrées, we highly recommend the Enfin Fisherman’s stew pot, which comes with generous amounts of seafood in a rich broth made with house-fermented rice wine and koji. A lighter option is the prawn salad – a refreshing combination of prawns, heirloom tomatoes, beetroot textures and romaine lettuce, with an ebiko mayo dressing.
Mains are served with your choice of pasta, vegetables or salad. A must-try dish at Enfin by James Won Kuala Lumpur is the wild-caught North Sea white cod. Pan-seared with tuak (fermented rice wine), the fish pairs well with a side of mildly spicy squid ink pasta, truffle beurre meuniere and wasabi mayonnaise. Other options include fish and chips, roast baby spring chicken and handmade pasta with imported mushrooms.
Lastly, dessert comes in the form of a traditional French tarte tatin, served with a scoop of ice cream and crumble. By substituting red apples with green ones, the tart is sweet without being cloying, while the pandan-flavoured ice cream gives a local flair to the ensemble.
