Espressolab Coffee Shop in Kuala Lumpur

Anything and everything related to coffee

Amongst the modern and sleek cafes that Kuala Lumpur has been practically overflowing with recently, Espressolab in Solaris Dutamas really stands out from the rest. Not because it is much better looking than any of its competitors, but precisely because it is not. The cafe’s minimalist look – with just a counter, preparation area and seats to enjoy your cuppa – focuses guests’ attention on their coffee, and well, when it all comes down to it, who comes to a coffee shop expecting world-class decor anyway? Nevertheless, Espressolab is one serious establishment for all things coffee, and it is slowly becoming KL-lites’ favourite joint for a caffeine fix.

The understated decor of Espressolab is complemented with all the machinery that a serious barista should be familiar with, such as Compak grinders and a syphon coffee maker, and if you like what you see, you can enquire within to know which machines are for sale. Other coffee toys such as French presses, milk froth jugs and temperature meters are for sale as well, for customers who are interested to take the Espressolab experience back home.

So, just how does their coffee rate? Some of the best that we’ve tasted in the city, we say! Using only specialty grade beans freshly roasted in small batches at their own Roastwerk facility, customers are guaranteed the tastiest version of their favourite coffee, and if it’s not just right, Espressolab will gladly remake your coffee to your exact specifications for free! The lattes taste good, too, with just enough flavour, served at the right temperature and we savour every sip.

Ordering is simple as the menu is straight to the point – no icy drinks (no fancy frappucinos here) and for non-coffee drinkers there’s hot chocolate and teas for you to choose from. There are also no food items save for biscotti, but guests are welcome to bring in outside food to enjoy with their drinks. To order, you first choose to have espresso with or without milk, and then only proceed with the drink of your choice such as a flat white, a long black or a latte.

Besides being serious coffee connoisseurs, Espressolab also offers classes and barista training with certification. Espressolab currently has five outlets in Kuala Lumpur, with kiosks at selective Shell petrol stations and appearances at seminars and private events.
