Gastro Sentral, situated within Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, offers an array of reasonably-priced western cuisine as well as classic pub offerings with a local flair. We start off with Gastro Sentral’s freshly-baked rosemary bread, served in tin cans that bear the Gastro Sentral logo. Fluffy, with a fragrant hint of garlic, we recommend dipping the bread in a mix of lobster oil and balsamic vinegar for added flavour. Next, we indulge in the spiced oxtail soup (RM26) with toasted roti bai, a traditional Malay soup that’s rich in local spices such as cardamom and coriander as well as chunks of tender meat.

One of Gastro Sentral’s standout dishes is the citrus-marinated butter cod carpaccio (RM43). Adding a creative twist to the traditional Italian dish, we love how the zesty-flavoured butter cod’s smooth and delicate texture is complemented with a side of fresh avocado cubes and ikuro roe. This dish also comes with a serving of Thai salad, consisting of thin sesame noodles, mussels, clams, and prawns with Thai spices.
Our first main of the evening is the pan seared sea scallops (RM58) that’s beautifully presented with gingered pea puree, hazelnut, and lemon cilantro gremolata. The dish has a generous portion of fresh scallops with a melt-in-your-mouth texture, making it a top choice for seafood lovers. Diners who prefer a meaty meal will delight in Gastro Sentral’s signature 22-hour braised wagyu cheek (RM58) served with creamy mashed potatoes, toasted baguette, grilled green asparagus, and béarnaise sauce and ‘to eat with your fingers’ (RM68) which is charcoal-grilled marinated lamb spare ribs with spicy smoked BBQ sauce, and deep fried pulut (glutinous rice).
Desserts are also aplenty in Gastro Sentral, including apple crumble (RM20) served with vanilla ice-cream and cinnamon sauce, Aunt Margaret’s famous butterscotch cheesecake (RM33) with graham cracker crust and four choices of toppings, as well as éclairs (RM15) which come with different fillings such as vanilla bean, chocolate, banana and mango, mascarpone and salted caramel, pistachio orange, and raspberry crispy wafer. For drinks, Gastro Sentral offers fresh fruit juices, creamy smoothies, coffees and teas, as well as a fair range of imported wines by the glass, carafe, and bottle: Merlot and Chardonnay are priced at RM35 per glass while Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo are priced at RM45.
