For a taste of some of the freshest sushi in town, head on over to Ichiro Sushi Bar in One Utama shopping centre. Situated on the top floor in Isetan, Ichiro is just one of the Japanese-themed food joints in a cluster, aptly-named ‘EAT Paradise’, and it certainly evokes an atmosphere of The Land of The Rising Sun with its compact seating arrangement and four Japanese chefs chattering among themselves while preparing meals. Ichiro Sushi Bar is open from 11:00 to 22:00 so it offers a convenient all-day dining option for when that sushi craving strikes but this restaurant is not recommended for larger parties as tables can only seat four people, with other seating around the preparation bar, mimicking the traditional sushi bars found all around Japan.
For the most part, Ichiro Sushi Bar is definitely for those who are serious about their sushi. The four Japanese chefs prepare their food with the exact precision and skill that is such a joy to watch in professionals passionate about their art. Ingredients are super fresh; with some flown all the way from the worldwide-famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo so you can expect the highest quality sushi when you’re dining here.
To simplify the ordering process, each seating area is equipped with an iPad loaded with the menu, together with promotions. All of the items on the menu are pictured, and guests can easily tap in for more details regarding the said item. Guests can also view what have ordered to keep track of their bill. The iPad is also used to keep track of the status of the food, just in case if you need to cancel your item.
So, how does the sushi rate? Well, we’d say it’s ‘exceptional’, as each item ordered is sincerely mouth-watering and presentation is top-notch. Our dragon maki roll (RM19) filled with slices of unagi (eel), alongside tamago (egg), avocado and a touch of cream cheese leaves us speechless with each bite, as each ingredient complements each other beautifully. Our next dish is a salmon sashimi plate, and it’s a fresh, melt-in-your-mouth affair. We also order their highly-praised chawan mushi (RM6) and discover that it’s one of the best we’ve ever had in KL. To finish, we try the green tea ice cream, but we could easily have ordered more items as everything that we tasted that day clearly exceeded our expectations.
While prices are a little on the expensive side compared to other sushi joints in the city, Ichiro Sushi Bar is still a deserving place to go, especially if quality and freshness are important factors for you.
