IPPUDO is a non-halal Japanese restaurant situated on the third floor of The Gardens Mall. Frequented for its homemade ramen and tantalising pork dishes, IPPUDO draws a large crowd during lunch hours due to its strategic location in Mid Valley Boulevard. Originating from Japan, IPUDDO has only three outlets in Malaysia, the first in Pavilion and the latest outlet is located in Bangsar Shopping Centre which was officially opened in early 2014.
Decor-wise, IPPUDO exudes a posh and stylish ambience with a prominent colour scheme of browns, reds and whites. One interesting feature that we love is a large four-sided pillar standing in the centre of the restaurant with words meaning ‘Thank You’ in many languages, such as English, Arabic, German, and Japanese adorning it. To ensure the comfort and privacy of its diners, seating options are limited yet spacious with cosy black, white and red leather seats.

For drinks, IPPUDO serves a wide array of signature alcoholic and non-alcoholic concoctions, such as Snow Mountain, a deliciously sweet juice shake made with peach and passion fruit topped with a scoop of yuzu sorbet, and Hakata Momo, IPPUDO’s signature cocktail that consists of Absolute Peach, triple sec liqueur and soda.
We start off with a healthy serving of Nikumiso tofu salad, which consists of sliced tofu atop fresh vegetables served with minced meat miso paste. Savouring every bite, we are treated to a wonderful contrast of crunchy salad and smooth tofu that is further enhanced with IPPUDO’s sweet and salty miso paste, making it a delicious and flavourful dish for the more health conscious diners.
Next, we are served with the spicy shrimp mayo where we indulge in deep-fried shrimps with spicy mayonnaise dip. The fresh and succulent taste of the shrimps is preserved as it is lightly battered and thanks to the expertise of the chef, they are neither too oily nor too dry. The presentation of the dish is visually interesting, with each prawn being propped on white porcelain spoons.
Our final appetiser is none other than IPUDDO’s best-selling pork bun. We love the fact that the steamed bun is pleasantly soft (not soggy) and the rich taste of braised pork melts into the mouth effortlessly. A definite must-try when for IPPUDO’s first time diners, but be warned, the temptation to order another one (or four) is hard to resist!
Last but not least, we savour the Akamaru Shinaji, one of IPPUDO’s three signature ramen dishes: the other two is Shiromaru Motoaji (a classic Hakata-style ramen in original tonkotsu broth served with ultra-thin noodles, pork loin, bean sprouts, kikurage and spring onions) and Karaka-men (tonkotsu broth with special spicy miso, cashew nuts and ground pork). Served with thin noodles, pork belly slices, kikurage, and spring onions, this dish has distinctively more flavour as the original tonkotsu broth is enhanced with blended miso paste and fragrant garlic oil. We recommend adding fresh garlic (which is served prior to ordering) for an extra kick of flavour in the tonkotsu broth. IPPUDO is well-known for its expert preparation and high quality of its ramen, and diners can request for their noodles to be well-cooked or al dente, though we prefer the latter for a springy texture to go with the broth.
The final touch of this gastronomic experience is IPPUDO’s specially prepared panna cotta, served chilled blueberry compote. As IPPUDO’s signature sweet course dish, this Italian dessert is a pleasant surprise to our taste buds. The blueberry compote is not overpoweringly sweet and perfectly complements the panna cotta’s smooth and creamy texture.
IPPUDO has the perfect myriad of ingredients that has earned its well-deserved title of a classy Japanese restaurant: prompt and friendly service, delicious food, and posh ambience.
