Jaya 33, a suburban shopping centre in Section 14 Petaling Jaya, has garnered a lot of press since it opened its doors in 2011. An office tower and lifestyle centre combo, it is best known for its array of award-winning restaurants, most noticeably Coliseum Cafe & Grill Room, and Noble Mansion.
These days, rising rent rates seem to be pushing creative types further and further away from the city, so the Klang Valley (just 15 minutes northeast of KL) has started welcoming some pretty quirky outdoor malls with cool boutiques and eateries. Some examples would be Publika in Sri Hartamas and Sunway Giza in Kota Damansara; Jaya 33 is another new addition to these ranks, playing home to several quirky and cool boutiques, and a few award-winning restaurants.

Spread across four acres, it is divided into three blocks (Towers 1, 2 and 3), with two floors dedicated to retail offerings and three stories of parking space. The place has an open-air concept, with neighbourhood hypermarket Jaya Grocer as its anchor tenant: entertainment-wise, those interested in pop culture memorabilia can head to Games World, plus there is a 70,000sqft Fitness First gym, and a range of day spas and beauty salons.
Targeting a middle-income market, some of the brands available under its roof include bed and bath specialists Kinder Soap, floral studio Sweet Pea, hardware store ACE Hardware, gift store My Lamb and vitamin specialists GNC.
However, it is Jaya 33’s list of restaurants that has earned it so much attention. We are especially enthusiastic about Coliseum Cafe & Grill Room, an offshoot of the ‘longest operating western colonial-themed bistro in Malaysia’ (according to the Malaysia Book of Records). The steaks here are the stars of the show but the menu also features some non-bovine based dishes such as tasty, gravy-based Hainanese fried mee and a superbly well-done chicken chop, with tender meat on the inside and a crispy golden-brown coating.
Besides that, you can also find branches of popular restaurants such as Noble Mansion and Oriental Pavilion with kitchens that put out fantastic-tasting Cantonese fare, and Vintry, a western venue popular for its wine selections and a pork-heavy menu. We love the fact that some of these venues offer live entertainment come nightfall.
Jaya 33 is also home to a convention and exhibition centre, spread across 6,200sqft and divided into six rooms, able to fit up to 120 people in a banquet-style seating arrangement.
What's more, one of Jaya 33 is right across from Digital Mall, the Klang Valley’s version of Kuala Lumpur’s Low Yat Plaza. Here you can find anything and everything to do with technological gadgets and gizmos.
