KL International Jazz Festival 2013

Jazz festival in Kuala Lumpur

Music-wise, Kuala Lumpur has been pretty interesting lately. The last few years has seen acts such as Incubus, Linkin Park, Sigur Ros and Jason Mraz passing through, and later this year heavy metal superstars Metallica are scheduled to perform, much to the delight of the country’s hard rock enthusiasts. Determined to raise the profile of Malaysia even more as a centre for great live music, the KL International Jazz Festival organized by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall is held annually as another platform for fans to enjoy world-class acts.

Initially scheduled in April 2013, the KL International Jazz Festival 2013 was brought forward to 14th September 2013 to make way for the 13th Malaysian General Election in May, but they promise no discount on action, showmanship and, well, all that jazz... The artiste line up includes Grammy Award-winning Lee Ritenour, the exotic Jessy J, and one of Australia’s finest exports, The Subterraneans. Local jazz acts such as KL Jazz Project and UM Big Band are also partaking in the action, inserting a community touch into the prestigious event.

Tickets to the KL International Jazz Festival can be purchased online, or through their hotline with prices as low as RM45 for those purchasing during their presale period. They are divided into two categories – Festival Village entry and all-access. Festival Village entry tickets will let you experience three of the four scheduled programmes, Experimental Theatre (13:00 – 19:00), Amphitheatre (15:00 – 21:00) and Fringe Stage (14:00 – 21:00). Meanwhile, the all-access ticket allows you admission to those three performances as well as to the Dewan Tunku Chancellor (18:00 – 24:00).

While the Festival Village tickets are all priced at one rate, those wanting to purchase the all-access tickets would have gold, silver and bronze options. These categories would determine the seating for the Dewan Tunku Chancellor event.

Alongside the performances held all-day, there will be other events happening, such as an art exhibition showcasing the best of Malaysian talents, plus booths selling food and drinks will also be set up onsite.
