Jibby & Co, located just outside Empire Shopping Gallery in Subang Jaya, is a two-storey standalone cafe with a very distinctive architectural design and offers tantalising brunch offerings inspired by the cafe culture in Melbourne, Australia. During weekends, it is not surprising to see a line of youths and families outside this trendy establishment; however, service is rather prompt and diners often share a spacious communal table on the first floor. Anyone heading to Subang Jaya in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur can’t fail to recognise Jibby & Co thanks to its exterior which strongly resembles a greenhouse with glass roofs and steel supports, and the sleek design carries on inside.
Entering this unique restaurant, diners are greeted with contemporary, minimalistic decor: light bulbs hanging from the high ceiling, colourful potted plants on communal tables, and massive glass windows providing plenty of natural light. For a more comfortable and laidback vibe, we recommend going during off-peak hours and grab a seat on one of the two plush couches.
Open daily from 8:30 to 16:30, Jibby & Co offers tempting brunch dishes such as baked eggs with house-made chicken sausages, topped with lemon zest, Neapolitan tomato sauce & North African ras el hanout spices, as well as French toast topped with sinfully sweet crème patisserie, fresh berries, crushed pistachios and maple glaze.
Jibby & Co makes the perfect weekend brunch spot in Subang Jaya and if you’re coming on a lazy Sunday we recommend the Chic Breakie, which consists of poached eggs, hash browns, smoked salmon, salmon roe, corn, zucchini and hollandaise sauce. A dish with a delicious combination of flavours, the eggs are cooked to perfection, the hash browns are crispy and not oily, while the salmon roe and corn add a boost of taste and texture to the ensemble.
Diners with a healthy appetite will revel in Three Layer Lasagna topped with toast. With a hefty portion of beef, mushroom, and roma tomatoes, the lasagna has the right amount of taste and texture without overwhelming the taste buds. Drizzled with a generous amount of basil sauce, it is a definite must-try at Jibby & Co.
For dessert, Jibby & Co’s array of homemade cakes include Vogue (fraisier genoise sponge cake with mousseline cream, vanilla and fresh strawberries), Meteora (a five-layer hazelnut dacquoise), with a line of apple cakes, pavlovas and meringues. Jibby & Co also offers an extensive beverage menu, ranging from shakes to mocktails to shaken teas and single-origin coffee. We recommend the creamy yet refreshing Banoffee Pie shake and the not overtly sweet Passionade (Sprite, passion fruit and lemon) – both are great antidotes to KL’s scorching weather.
Overall, Jibby & Co is a pleasant hang out spot for any occasion, from casual gatherings to intimate family dinner outings. It is also a halal establishment (no alcohol and porcine dishes are served here), which makes it stand out from the hordes of pork burger joints available in Subang Jaya. Prices may also seem rather steep compared to similar cafes, but Jibby & Co makes it up with a satisfying food-and-beverage menu, freshly baked cakes, and a cosy ambience unlike any other eateries in Subang Jaya.
