Nerofico restaurant in Wisma Perintis along Jalan Dungun is really one of those restaurants you need to visit now. From its pots, pans and bowls, come artfully-presented and soul-satisfying classic Italian and western dishes, created with locally grown ingredients in a nod to KL’s many cultures. With some minor improvements, the food could take centre stage along with other dining room heavyweights in Kuala Lumpur’s culinary scene.
Opened in 2009, this value-for-money restaurant serves a dual purpose, with some diners simply regarding it as an elegant dining room perfect for family celebrations, business meetings and romantic dinners, while others come for its great live entertainment performances.
An exciting, contemporary space that channels the same upscale-casual fine dining as sister venture Neroteca in Kuala Lumpur, the overall interior design in Nerofico has a knack of arresting attention while making you feel comfortable. Despite modern blonde wood furniture and buffed wood floors, the space still has a homey ambiance – possibly due to the wraparound windows with lots of greenery outside, or the electric blue walls which somehow add in a soothing sense to the place.
The restaurant’s musical soundtrack stays true to jazz and easy listening tracks played over the speakers during dinner time, but on Friday and Saturday nights from 22:00 onwards the restaurant hosts live jazz performances and even occasional poetry slams!
When it comes to the food, there is great focus placed on utilising seasonal, local ingredients at Nerofico. One thing that must be said – make no mistake, the kitchen handles meat beautifully with the white and red meats available on the menu done up beautifully. However, abundant attention is also paid to vegetables, raising them from simple side dishes to starring status such as the minestrone soup which is light yet richly flavoured.
Favourite menu items include the fresh tortellini with wild mushrooms, with ingredients working together harmoniously to successfully create new tasting sensations for your palate. Served with a butter and thyme sauce topped with pan fried foie gras, this (RM30) dish alone is well worth the visit. Besides all that, you know you’ve hit the culinary jackpot when the total bill does not burn a hole in your pocketbook.
