Salabianca is a home-grown fashion brand noted for its designs that feature plenty of beadwork, sequins and embroidery. Since its inception it has gone on to establish its credentials as a bona fide KL fashion house, with its range of ornate party dresses and statement jewellery pieces being especially popular.
If you are unenthusiastic about bulk-produced styles then Salabianca is the place for you and the perfect boutique to shop at if you are shopping for a wedding or an elaborate party, with clothes that are unique, glamorous and attention-grabbing. With its heavy embellishment, each design is unique and bold enough to be worn without accessories or even heavy jewellery.
The store has chandeliers, plush Victorian-style high-back sofas, velvet foot stools, gilded mirrors and bold splashes of colour everywhere, along with clothes rails that line the walls hold its collections, sorted by colour.
The elaborate, fairytale-like line is popular in Malaysia, with stretchy fabrics being used most often to ensure that they can be worn by all shapes and sizes –from petite-sized ladies to full-figured women. Clothes are often appealingly-odd (like a one-shoulder, little black dress with an image of Barbie) and frequently embellished with baubles like freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones. Considering the intricate, handcrafted work that goes into each dress, they are very affordable (prices range from RM120 to RM600).
There is something for everyone here with clothes that are a mix of ‘in-style’, cute and chic designs for everyday wear and modest, dreamy and ornate traditional fashions that are just the thing for conventional weddings and events.
Unafraid to mix and match patterns, the modern, everyday line has romantic, vintage Renaissance-inspired pieces (like corset-tops with lace ruffles) and psychedelic '60s-style designs (such as pleated skirts, peplum tops and shift dresses) in bold colours and animal and floral prints.
Meanwhile, the traditional collections are trendy, Bohemian styles with ethnic touches (like a bubble-skirt dress with a Chinese-style cheong sam collar) and made with materials like organza, crushed velvet and flowing chiffon.
Salabianca also stocks jewellery, accessories, sequined clutches and handbags, a small selection of shoes and some knick knacks like cell phone covers.
