Southern Rock Seafood Kuala Lumpur’s standardised all-day menu is completely meat-free, utilising fresh greens, cured and fresh fish, and shellfish imported from Australia, Europe, and New Zealand. Ensuring the quality of their dishes, there’s also a suspended chalkboard menu which changes according to their catch of the day. Prices are slightly higher compared to other seafood restaurants in KL, but there’s no denying the freshness or quality of produce served here.
Starters range from conventional deep-fried potato wedges (RM12) to tantalising seafood popcorn (RM20) – crispy golden salmon, snapper and codfish balls, served with British Marie Rose sauce, which is a blend of tomatoes, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and pepper.
For mains, we indulge in a couple of dishes from Southern Rock Seafood Kuala Lumpur’s catch-of-the-day menu. The grilled salmon (RM32) is a simple yet flavourful ensemble, its firm and flaky meat pairs well with a side of roasted potatoes, capsicums, and onions. Another standout dish is the pan-fried plaice (RM32), a European flatfish drizzled with fragrant butter sauce, topped with grilled broccoli and potatoes.
Desserts are more of an afterthought here, though the salted caramel brownies (RM20) are a hit, consisting of fudgy dark chocolate and caramel alongside pomegranate seeds and whipped cream.
