The Bier Bar in Kuala Lumpur

German beer bar in Changkat Bukit Bintang

The Bier Bar is a modern German gastro pub located along Changkat Bukit Bintang with a great neighbourhood-tavern feel. One of the things that have contributed to its popularity is the ‘one metre long draught beer’ – about 11 glasses of the bar’s different brews, lined up and served on a wooden board. Another quirky special at The Bier Bar is the Eiffel Tower, a three-litre beer tower shaped like the Eiffel Tower.

Nominated in the Restaurateur of the Year category of Time Out KL Food Awards in 2012, The Bier Bar stays true to its German core serving authentic German dishes like Bavarian-style schnitzels, bratwursts and pork knuckles, plus there is also Spanish cuisine available.

At any place dedicated to beer connoisseurs, you can expect dozens upon dozens of beers, with hard-to-pronounce names that just add to its appeal: the draught beer of the day is incredibly cheap at only RM6 a glass!

A comfortable and casual after-work chill out nightlife spot, one of the things that make The Bier Bar so popular is its good service. They really treat you like family here, with staff members joking around with in a friendly and cheerful manner throughout the night. Plus they are very knowledgeable about the beers and will happily help you select the right tipple for you. The background music is the best of the 80s and the latest top 40 pop hits – very popular with the after-work crowd.

Inside polished wooden floors, intimate tables and bar stools upholstered with cream cushions contrast with exposed piping and stripped brick walls. Outside, under the brown-and-white striped awning are wrought iron lamps and some outdoor seating: ceiling fans give this section a breezy feel.

To get to The Bier Bar from Jalan Bukit Bintang head west (walk towards Jalan Gading) and then turn onto Jalan Sultan Ismail. Take the first left onto Jalan Berangan, the next right onto Jalan Nagasari and then the first right onto Jalan Angsoka – the gastro pub will be on your right.
