The Green Man is one of the oldest restobars along Changkat Bukit Bintang. Set in an abandoned pre-war terraced house, it looks like a typical British pub with a bar and pool table. There are pencil-drawn sketches of old London Town and a few teakwood tables for you to sit at inside but most people choose the outdoor seating – the perfect spot to people watch.
There are flashier clubs just next door but if you are looking for a different sort of energy, then the old tavern-like feel of The Green Man is for you. The pub’s happy hour deals, coupled with its green décor and peaceful, homey vibe make it the perfect place to hang out with friends.
Changkat Bukit Bintang is vastly different during the day than at night. In the daytime, the tree-lined street is quiet with more people gathering at the nearby kopitiams (coffee shops) for their daily coffee and kaya toast fill.
There are a few restobars that open early here and The Green Man is one of them: the type of place for a long, lazy lunch followed by a relaxed drinking session. Offering good, simple food, the place has a family-like atmosphere, with staff members who call you by name and chat as if you are old friends.
The filling food at Green Man is excellent: especially if paired with a pint of Guinness. Special mention has to be made of its homemade pork pie with Colman's mustard and sweet pickles – the crust is flaky and the meat tender and juicy. Other dependable picks here include the bangers and mash, the beer-battered fish and thickly-cut chips, and roast pork sandwich with sage and onion stuffing. Portions are big enough to share.
The Green Man is known for its weekly Sunday set lunch and dinner menu – roast beef with Yorkshire pudding... almost as good as your mum’s recipe.
Nominated in 2009, 2010 and 2012 for Time Out KL’s Food Awards in the Best Pub Grub category, The Green Man is a great place for those looking for a British experience, with good deals on beers. It is located along Changkat Bukit Bintang, an easy walk after shopping in the Bukit Bintang area.
From Jalan Bukit Bintang, head west towards Jalan Sultan Ismail and then turn left onto Jalan Nagasari: finally, make a left turn onto Changkat Bukit Bintang road.
