deButchery Whisky & Wine Lounge (formerly known as The Meat & Wine Co. Kuala Lumpur) is a pork-free restaurant and bar that serves big juicy steaks and feel-good western classics, all alongside a solid list of imported wines from around the world. Situated within a 15 minute drive from Kuala Lumpur city centre in Solaris Dutamas, the restaurant’s rather hidden locale and friendly service makes it a great place for intimate dinners as well as casual gatherings.
The indoor fine-dining setting exudes an industrial-meets-rustic theme with bare bricked walls, warm lighting, blackened steel fixtures with well-spaced seating arrangements as well as an impressive display of alcoholic beverages at the open bar. Perfect for enjoying breezy evenings with a pint or two, the al fresco section features wooden communal tables and benches while potted plants provide a verdant setting.

We start off with Peruvian ceviche (RM16), a seafood appetiser with chunks of fresh snapper marinated in freshly squeezed lime juice, topped with sliced red onions, coriander, chilli peppers, and ginger. Delightfully fresh with a citrusy flavour, this pretty dish is divided into four portions each served on white porcelain spoons.
Consisting of four starters, a serving of French fries with honey dip and aioli, The Meat & Wine Co.’s to share mixed platter (RM39.90) is generously topped with Buffalo wings, chicken quesadilla, pineapple-cut calamari, and sweet chicken yakitori.
For mains, we first sample the restaurant’s signature chicken jalapeno (RM30), a spicy and peppery experience thanks to its juicy 24-hour marinated chicken, rosemary potatoes, fresh salad, and chimichurri (a fragrant sauce from Argentina commonly used for grilled meat).
With a portion that can be shared among three people, our favourite dish of the evening is the 550g OP (oven-prepared) beef ribs served with chimichurri sauce, French fries and roast salad. Expertly prepared by Argentinean chef Ramiro Moya, the medium-rare ribs are exceptionally tender in texture while the chimcurri sauce really brings out the beef’s natural flavours.
The restaurant also offers a satisfying variety of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, ranging from rich red wines to refreshing virgin pina coladas. Ending our evening at deButchery Whisky & Wine Lounge KL on a sweet note, we indulge in the chocolate volcano with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, which is a decadent moist dark chocolate cake with gooey melted chocolate in the centre.
Overall, deButchery Whisky & Wine Lounge KL's casual yet overall classy ambiance makes for a cosy and romantic dinner affair, after-work gatherings, as well as intimate get-togethers over a glass of wine - and meaty steaks of course.
