  • Troika Sky Dining at Kuala Lumpur

Fine dining restaurants and wine bar in KLCC

    0

Troika Sky Dining can be described in one word - impressive. Kuala Lumpur locals are becoming spoilt for choice when it comes to fine dining restaurants with a view, but this venue certainly stands out from the pack. Set in Tower B of The Troika along Persiaran KLCC, it comprises two dining venues and a bar: fusion-focused Cantaloupe, Italian bistro Strato and Claret wine bar.

Popular with young, trendy urbanites, from the outside The Troika blends in with the rest of the city’s industrial skyline, looking like just any other concrete, steel and glass structure. However, inside each of the building’s dining and drinking venues is an entirely different experience with low-key yet stylish design schemes that allow the views to take centre stage.

  • Cantaloupe

Set on The Troika’s 23rd floor, Cantaloupe is not really a rooftop establishment, but its floor-to-ceiling angled glass windows overlook the city and offer a weatherproof dining experience at an altitude. The kitchen is helmed by Chef Christian Bauer (formerly of Frangipani restaurant fame along Changkat Bukit Bintang), offering a concise, haute menu with French, Italian, Greek and Spanish flavours evident in its dishes.

We recommend you start off your three-course meal here with truffled poached egg (RM50) with savoury barley cream, Swiss chard, egg yolk foam, beef fat vinaigrette, crisp dried beef and truffle batonnet. Next, we recommend lamb tartare (RM75), hand chopped juicy lamb loin with soft egg yolk and tender smoky duck cooked in shallot oil with tangy garlic crisps and topped with crispy croutons and glazed figs. Follow up with the roast Wagyu sirloin (RM95) served with truffle potatoes, crunchy Brussels sprouts and sweet glazed carrots.

    Strato

Head up the discreet spiral staircase, past craquelure paintwork and you will find Troika Sky Dining’s Strato. The Italian bistro has mastered the art of being trendy yet welcoming, with industrial themed interior design – think, cream loungers, marble-topped tables, wooden floors and steel fixtures setting the tone. Meanwhile, the menu is assertive and adventurous, taking pizzas and pastas to the next level: stalwarts like bolognaise and carbonara are available but they have been upgraded with the addition of high-end ingredients. We recommend the ravioli in sage butter (RM55), served with melt-in-your-mouth slices of Wagyu beef cheek and fried onions; also good is the juicy, over roasted chicken breast with basil and mozzarella (RM55). Fast and friendly service seals the deal.

    Claret

Just across the room from Cantaloupe is Claret, a wine bar that also does a fine line in cocktails. The antithesis of a large impersonal drinking barn, the décor is understated and elegant with lots of wood and steel fixtures, and plenty of quirky furniture (like a blue velvet couch and hounds-tooth chairs) to add a cosy touch. Best of all, there is an outdoor terrace with Chesterfield sofas where you can take in a cool gin and tonic while admiring the ever-evolving skyline.

Expect a thoroughly sexy vibe at whichever site you choose, and it goes without saying that the cloud-skimming views will be something else: they also host a series of pretty worthwhile monthly wine tasting events. Whether you are here for business meetings, family dinner, or just networking, Troika Sky Dining certainly caters to all.
