5 Places to Celebrate Valentine's Day in KL
FYI: Gentlemen remember that Valentine's is on February 14!
Searching for somewhere unique to eat this Valentine's Day in Kuala Lumpur? Whether you are hoping to impress on a first date or celebrate the Festival of Love by enjoying an intimate meal for two with a long-term loved one, we have rounded up five of the city’s best restaurants to fit your plans. Atmosphere plays a very important part in our selection process but so does the quality of food.
Ranging from casual yet intimate places with special menus and even more unique décor, to places with a sexy vibe, here are our top picks where you can cosy up for an unforgettable meal.
Only a five-minute drive from Jalan Bukit Bintang, Maison Francaise is a French restaurant set in a dreamy, three-storey building along Changkat Kia Peng. The place has a very European vibe with a vintage Rolls Royce parked out front, while the main dining hall has white walls, modern crystal chandeliers and white tablecloth covered tables. From the balcony you can see amazing views of KLCC, but it is the al fresco dining area surrounding the pool with a canopy of trees, twinkling lights and a view to the stars that makes this a great spot for Valentine's night.
The restaurant’s kitchen is spearheaded by Franck Lamache, an executive chef who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants such as Les Ambassadeurs and Le Taillevent in Paris. The menu is purely French: we highly recommend the lamb stew with green beans – a hearty, flavourful dish – and the foie gras with smooth and creamy terrine and sweet onion and apple chutney. La Vie En Rose
If you are in the market for something a little more casual, we recommend La Vie En Rose. Set in a converted house that was abandoned for 15 years, the place looks rustic but quaint with buffed concrete floors and chandeliers. White tablecloth covered tables, vases of lilies and a secluded air create a very romantic vibe making it the perfect Valentine’s Day dinner date venue.
The classic yet creative French food is exceptional: standouts include the pan-fried foie gras, truffled mashed potatoes and coq au vin. Their 2013 Valentine Day’s Special includes separate menus for men and women: there are duck confit springrolls for ‘her’ and marinated Petuna trout and veal roulade for ‘him’.
- Opening Hours: 12:00 – 14:00 and 18:30 Tuesday – Sunday
- Address: 39 Jalan Raja Chulan

Located along Changkat Bukit Bintang, Frangipani is no stranger to Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife scene. Listed in Malaysian Tatler’s 2011 Best Restaurant Guide, the place looks like a black-tie James Bond movie dining scene with cream, linen-covered tables surrounding a reflecting black pool with white Raj-like columns.
The chic lounge upstairs is best known to tourists as one of the city’s only gay-friendly bars, but come Valentine’s Day the fine-dining restaurant downstairs far outshines the bar. This year Frangipani’s special Valentine’s Day seven-course French dinner is perfect for those after a real foodie Valentine's night – it is culinary art at its best. Read More...

Easily one of Kuala Lumpur’s most romantic restaurants, Prime at Le Meridian Hotel KL is a good choice for a low-key, candlelit dinner (especially if you are not too keen on French food). Their selection of steaks from Australia, Japan, Argentina and USA coupled with the elegant ambiance, makes it clear why they were the winners of Time Out KL’s Best Fine Dining Restaurant Award in 2012. Looking a lot like an art-deco European bistro, this year Prime is offering a five-course Valentine’s Day set menu.
- Opening Hours: 12:30 – 14:30; 18:30 – 23:00
- Address: Level 5, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, 2 Jalan Stesen Sentral

Located in a pre-war terraced house nearby Changkat Bukit Bintang, Palate Palette is divided into a lounge (upstairs) and restaurant (downstairs). The place is like something out of a fairytale with shady trees, pebbled walkways, flowers and lots of colourful tables and chairs.
The perfect place for a fun, flirty Valentine’s Day night out, their ‘Love & Peace Set Dinner’ on February 14 is very affordable at RM165++ per couple. You get a choice of either herb-crusted rib-eye steak with balsamic vinegar or crispy salmon with grapefruit dressing: dessert is a glazed chocolate tart with whipped cream. Read More...
