Variante is a home-grown fashion label that started out in 2005 with a simple collection of shirts. A customer’s request for some beadwork to be added to a blouse led to a collection of heavily embellished, ready-to-wear designs. Flexible, functional and fashionable, today Variante is very popular in the local market, with seven boutiques in total (in Bangsar, Pavilion KL, Suria KLCC, The Gardens, Mid Valley, One Utama and Shah Alam).
Much like Farah Khan’s bright, funky and modern collections, Variante’s clothing caters to the modern woman with ready-to-wear designs meant for sophisticated women on the go. The only real difference between the two designers is that Variante’s apparel is more modest but they still use the same bright, punchy colours and easy-to-maintain materials.
The type of clothes you can feel confident and beautiful in, with designs that are modest and feminine but modern and empowering, each outfit focuses on comfort and versatility. Designed specifically for Malaysian women, flowing fabrics are instrumental in each pattern (making them very comfortable), but intricate embellishments ensure that these outfits stand out.
Variante’s eveningwear collection is perfect for big events like weddings and parties but you can also find a line of spunky kaftan and tunic editions as well as some shirts for men.

The label has slowly been gaining renown – in 2011, it premiered a Kate Middleton-inspired gown and up-and-coming Malaysian artist Amanda Imani wore a Variante gown at the awards ceremony of the Best New Artist at the Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) in Singapore.
The Bangsar branch has the same look as its other venues – with clean lines and modern furnishings making it feel like an intimate high concept fashion shopping experience. At the store you can get personalised services, from having a gown custom-made or even just simple help from staff members in styling an outfit. Clothes are priced between RM59 and RM659.
