Way Modern Chinois

Contemporary Chinese Restaurant in Damansara Heights

Way Modern Chinois is a classy restaurant in Kuala Lumpur that’s well-frequented for its extensive range of contemporary Chinese cuisine. Situated in Damansara Heights, this well-hidden establishment features a sleek elevator entrance that opens to a softly lit interior with a mix of wooden panels and mirrored walls, minimal yet modern decor, woodenfurnishing, and a massive vase of orchids as its centrepiece.

Way Modern Chinois is a pork-free establishment, featuring an array of Chinese delicacies with international influences and flavours. For starters, we sample the Wagyu bun (RM12), which is a deep-fried bun with black pepper Wagyu stuffing. Crafted in the shape of a porcupine, the bun remains crispy and soft while the piping hot filling is pleasantly savoury with a lingering peppery taste.

Another interesting ensemble is the Pac Man dumplings (RM22), Way Modern Chinois’ unique take on the traditional Chinese har gau. Marinated with Szechuan spices, the dish consists of four steamed prawn dumplings served with a side of spicy ponzu and avocado salad topped with a Pac Man shaped cracker. Delectable and full of flavour, the snow bun (RM10) is another crowd favourite here. The custard bun is crisp on the outside with generous amounts of char siew chicken, resulting in a sweet and savoury combination that’s simply irresistible.

Way Modern Chinois’ signature dish is thetruffle roast duck (RM168), a whole duck that’s generously marinated with truffle sauce, double-roasted with truffle oil,and truffle slices for toppings. Roasted to perfection, the skin is very crispy while the meat is incredibly juicy and fragrant with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. As the roast duck requires at least five hours of marinating, guests are required to book 24 hours in advance.

Open for lunch and dinner, Way Modern Chinois is accessible within a 20-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur city centre. While finding a parking in the Damansara Heights vicinity can be a bit of a challenge, Way Modern Chinois’ stellar execution of contemporary Chinese cuisine and elegant dining ambience makes it well worth a visit.
