Yoshinoya & Hanamaru Udon Kuala Lumpur

Japanese Cafeteria in Mid Valley Megamall

Yoshinoya & Hanamaru Udon Kuala Lumpur is a cafeteria-style Japanese eatery that serves handmade noodles and rice bowl dishes at affordable prices. Located on the 3rd floor of Mid Valley Megamall, both brands operate a self-service system, where diners order, collect and pay for their food at the counter.

With over 1800 outlets in Japan, USA, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and Taiwan, Yoshinoya is a restaurant chain that’s reputable for its gyudon (beef rice bowl). Consisting of piping hot Japanese rice and topped with tender beef slices and caramelised onions, a regular-sized bowl is priced at RM9.80 and RM11.80 for a large bowl.

If you’re not a fan of beef, other rice bowl options available here include chicken hamburger, chicken yakitori, vegetable, chicken oyako, and karaage. Yoshinoya also offers a selection of a la carte items such as miso soup (RM2.80), beef yakiniku, salad, prawn tempura (RM3), sweet potato tempura (RM3), chawan mushi (RM8) and sukiyaki (RM15.80).

Meanwhile, diners with a craving for Japanese noodles can sink their teeth in over 10 types of sanuki udon (made in-house everyday)at the Hanamaru Udon counter. Priced at RM8 onwards for a regular bowl, standout dishes include the curry udon, spicy miso udon, and ontamabukkake.

Japanese curries tend to be on the lighter side, but Hanamaru Udon’s curry is both flavourful and spicy with loads of carrots, pairing well with the smooth wheat noodles. Our favourite is the ontama bukakke udon, which consists of a Japanese poached egg and noodles in a delicious broth made with signature soy sauce, dried kelp and sardines.

Set between the Yoshinoya and Hanamaru Udon counters is Azuki & Café, a beverage kiosk that offers the standard green tea (RM1.50), as well as a range of soft drinks, smoothies, coffees, and Japanese sodas that cost between RM3 and RM10.

Affordable, quick, convenient, and extensive, Yoshinoya & Hanamaru Udon Kuala Lumpur is a great place to stop by for lunch at Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens Mall.
