Zouk Nightclub near KLCC

Super nightclub along Jalan Ampang, KL

A sprawling nightclub, bar, live music venue and restaurant, Zouk KL is an icon in Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife scene that has been around since 2004. Located along Jalan Ampang, Zouk started out life with four different zones – Zouk, Velvet Underground, Loft and Terrace. Today it has grown to encompass six rooms, Aristo & Rooftop Garden, Barsonic, Main Room, Phuture, Terrace Bar and Velvet Underground.

Best known for hosting themed party nights like retro Mambo Jambo (70s and 80s hits remixed with house music) on Wednesday nights, Zouk KL has become a staple in the city’s clubbing scene and has developed a cult following among locals. Sister nightclub to Zouk Singapore, its moniker means ‘party’ in French Creole and it lives up to its name, with each of the club’s spaces featuring different decor and offering diverse clubbing experiences.

The ideal port of call before you start dancing the night away is Terrace Bar. With its tasty international menu, it makes the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat, and while you’re doing so make sure you check out its impressive golden, ceiling rope-art installation. Or you could head to Aristo & Rooftop Garden, a rooftop bar offering fantastic views of the Petronas Twin Towers, for a chilled pre-party drink.

The impressive glow-in-the-dark Main Room is undoubtedly the centrepiece of Zouk KL. Split over two levels, surrounding the neon-lit dance floor, there is a bar on the ground level, three futuristic-looking lounge areas and a DJ console: with an upstairs balcony that overlooks the dance floor. Packing a powerful sound system, the dance floor fills up pretty fast since the music played here is the most diverse, ranging from R&B and hip-hop to house and top 40 hits.

Velvet Underground is a more relaxed clubbing experience: the dance floor looks a lot like the inside of a spaceship with silver-chrome pillars, but retro-style wallpaper and velvet-covered furniture makes you feel like you are on the set of an 80s’ TV show. The solid music policy here leans toward house and soul tracks with a refreshing, laidback vibe, it is the go-to spot for the city's style set.

With a dance floor that resounds to the beats of live music, the edgy Bar Sonic (with simple decor of black leather couches) is popular with college students, but if you are looking for a hipster-like clubbing experience look no further than Phuture. The perfect place to get down and dirty, this room is ultra-modern (think orange-lit banisters, purple and pink suede couches and more than 20 TV screens showing music videos), with hip-hop, R&B and broken beats featuring prominently.

At Zouk KL a rotating list of local and international DJs spin heady dance floor tracks until the wee hours of the morning, but it has also attracted international heavyweight headliners such as DJ Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk and David Morales in the past.

We recommend the super club’s epic parties that span all six rooms like Mambo Jambo nights on Wednesday or Ghetto Heaven (ladies get in for free before midnight) on Tuesday night. The nightclub is easily accessible via train, with the Bukit Nanas monorail station a short walk away.
