Plan B is a coffee bar that looks very much like a modern, industrial-looking New York deli. Perfect for a mid-morning brunch, a quick business lunch or even a hearty dinner with family, the place ticks all the right boxes with cool furnishings, good location, tasty food and unique style. It specialises in western food, but it also serves Asian dishes like nasi lemak and Nyonya laksa.
The casual restaurant can get crowded especially during the weekend but the simple décor makes the place seem very spacious. To date there are five branches: at 1 Utama, Bangsar Village 1, Mid Valley Megamall, Paradigm Mall and Publika Mall.

The food at Plan B is focused mostly on simple but quirky dishes with its sandwiches, salads and pastas being the main reason most people visit. On our visit we started out with the duck confit ciabatta, which came with caramelised onions and crispy, flavour-filled sweet potato and yam crisps – it was an extremely tasty sandwich.
Another must-try dish is the Plan B’s signature spicy crabmeat linguine. Bold and innovative, it was served with a tomato-based sauce flavoured with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and prawn oil. A mild dish, it lingered on our palate (and minds) long after the last bite was gone. Our top picks for dessert included the sticky and sweet almond toffee bar, and the apple crumble tart – the pastry simply crumbles in your mouth and the apple filling is sweet but sharp-tasting.
It looks very hip but fuss-free, with lighting from lamps casting a warm glow over the restaurant, buffed concrete floors, cosy tables and TVs playing P. Ramlee (a beloved Malay cinematic icon) movies add a local touch.
The Bangsar Village 1 branch is divided into two sections: there is an indoor dining area with tables that can seat up to four people and an alfresco lounge with armchairs. The indoor dining area has Georgian-style windows, naked light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, exposed copper piping, flat-screen TVs and coffee-themed art pieces on the walls. Meanwhile, the airy outdoor lounge is the perfect place for those who want to enjoy a cigarette, with comfortable black leather sofas, ceiling fans and plenty of potted plants giving it an airy, green feel.
